The project calls for a design of a personal library that covers topics on Chinese antiques and collectables for an Art Collector who owns an antique shop in Hong Kong. There is also an outdoor patio for quiet reading and gathering of close friends.

The project continued our investigations on Lines, Planes, and Volumes that we started in another art gallery project. Instead of using patina metal as display unit, this project was inspired by the traditional Dougong(斗拱) construction system found in most ancient Chinese temples.

We employed this tectonic to develop our shelfing system, all through a 2cm X 2cm linear wooden square stick. This linearity motif further expanded to form the porous ceiling, cabinet doors. Stone floors tile were etched with this Yin/Yang linear strips to echo the atmospheric presence of “LINE-in-Space.” The outdoor pavilion takes on a similar tectonic idea. The structural support of the pavilion is further “de-constructed” into a family of four smaller columns to act as structural support.
