Concept:

Upon our first site visit of this 2,700sf duplex unit located on the southern part of Hong Kong Island, we were awestruck by the 270 degree of panoramic view of the sea this unit commands.
This breathtaking view reminds us of standing at the pulpit of a boat, with an unobstructed view of the ocean. This sense of freedom and liberation forms the basis of our design.
We design a series of floating planes that define various spaces within the residence. Most notably is the boat pulpit inspired dining table that is suspended precariously by tension cables in dining room. Not only is it a visual anchor of the space but the 6 meter long table surface also extends to becoming the tread of the stair which then leads to the upper floor. The staircase is also a composition of floating planes which leads to the master bedroom above.
The finishes and materials of the entire apartment are detailed in such a way to acknowledge and to reinforce the planar quality in the design.
